I spent an entire day peeling tomatoes, and I actually enjoyed myself...
I just had to pause there, enjoyed peeling Tomatoes, huh. Who would have thought?
Dawnny came home to nearly 12 pounds of peeled tomatoes, I had a smirk on my face that I couldn't wipe away. One of those, I did something productive and I'm also awesome smirks. Still is there... Just there, saying, 'I might possibly be a superhero.'
Tomorrow we make marinara sauce, canned. I'm looking forward to another smirk on my face, if all goes well...
I got the tips on how to peel tomatoes here: Can It page; 61
Start out by washing your Tomatoes.
Then you are going to want to cut a cross on one or both ends of your tomatoes where they once were attached to the stem, and directly opposite of that if you choose. I tend to cut both ends.
Next you want to boil your Tomatoes, and let them simmer for about 1-3 minutes.
In a bowl or pot with ice in it, quickly transfer your tomatoes from the boiling water to the ice cold water.
The skins of the tomatoes should almost fall off. start peeling them from your crosses. This can be tedious, but a little effort and some really great music can make the time speed by.
Place them in containers if you want to refrigerate them, or put them right into your recipes. This was the quickest and least difficult way I have found to peel tomatoes.
