There is a first for everything, my first time in Paris, first time eating a macaroon, and I still remember my first time cantering on that little school pony way back when. So when I started this blog I hadn't realized how many firsts I would introduce myself to.
This will be my first time making Scones. Wish me luck.
My inner Julia Child, don't let me down.
Turning on my Kansas Playlist and going for it. My favorite thing to do is place everything into bowls and make sure I have all the ingredients and they are all measured out. A bit unnecessary, but it gives me a peace of mind. I got the recipe here.
Now to mix them all together, first dry ingredients; 3 cups flour, 1/3 cup sugar, 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, 3/4 teaspoon salt. Then for the 12 tablespoons of butter cut into small squares, Some lemon zest if you wish. Lastly 1 cup of buttermilk.
Done.
Roll into a ball, then roll out on a large surface, if your surface is small then cut ball in half and roll out two smaller balls. There was a long explanation on different ways to roll out your scones. I chose to take a different route, hopefully it works...
I rolled the dough out really flat, then loosely rolled it, cutting that roll in diagonal slices making triangles. Fingers crossed.
Now to start the topping.
1 tablespoon lemon zest, 4 tablespoons butter, 1/4 cup sugar; melt together.
Spread on top. Yum.
10 minutes in the oven at 425.
We don't get thunder here near Seattle Washington very often. A bit funny actually that today, with 5 minutes left on my first batch of scones in the oven, thunder would start. Rain, I love this kind of rain. Its the sky screaming, dark clouds, heavy rain, cool air, and warm sweater kind of Rain. The good stuff. Alas it only lasts a moment.
The perfect day for cooking.
